Papaya
Papaya (Carica Papaya L.) is a small and edible fruit tree that can be found all over the Philippines. It is a fast growing tree about 6-8 meters tall.  It is unbranched and trunk covered with scars of fallen leaf stalks. Leaves are a bit rounded in outline, palmately 7-9 lobed. Flowers are usually yellowish. Fruits vary its shapes, colors and taste. It contains numerous black seeds which are embedded in the sweet pulp.

Papaya fruits can be added to fruit salads, flavor to candies, an ingredient in making soaps, and also can be used in some delicacies like “sinabawang manok”.


  Papaya is one of the very effective medicinal plants which contain proteolytic enzyme papain that are useful in patient with rheumatism, asthma, bleeding and dyspepsia.

Mangga (Mangifera indica L.) is a fruit tree that can be seen throughout the entire Philippines. Most of them are planted on Mt. Banahaw. It is an edible fruit that makes wonderful landscapes in the farms. They usually a fast growing trees to about 60-65ft. Some Mango trees can live over 200 - 300 years and still bears a fruits. Usually mango leaves are dark green, oblong or roundish-oblong in shape. Its fruits are irregularly egg-shaped and slightly compressed large fleshy drupes. It varies considerably in size, shape, color, presence of fiber, flavor, taste and several other characters depending on variety.  The leaves are used in treatment of diabetes, for chronic diseases of the lungs, for asthma and colds. The flowers are used in handling diarrhea. The ripe fruit is said to be diuretic, laxative, and useful for constipation. The seed (pit/stone) of Manga is used for diarrhea and is considered anthelmintic. The seeds are also used for treating round worm.

Both ripe and unripe mango fruits also used in making juices, "mango shakes" which is very refreshing during summer. Can be added to flavor an ice cream, candies, breads and some of Philippine delicacies like paksiw and kinilaw.
